LAHORE:
People thronged Lahore Zoo to enjoy a bird show organised for the first time on Sunday.

The zoo administration held the event in collaboration with the Cocktail Society. A large number of birds tamed in homes were showcased at the show. A large number of people showed up at the event to take a look at the home-grown birds.

Popular species at the show included cocktails, budgerigar and a variety of finches in different colours.

The Lahore Zoo has a large collection of birds, but it was for the first time that the recreational spot served as a venue for a specialised bird show.

Lahore Zoo Deputy Director Tanveer Janjua said birds that were kept at the show were not native to Pakistan but their breeding is being done in the country. According to organisers, the event was organised to appreciate the works of bird breeders and to spread awareness regarding the different varieties of birds. The visitors were told about the feed, health and various species of the birds.

A large number of people visited the Lahore Zoo due to Sunday. Children and women also exhibited a strong interest in the birds at the show and took pictures with the birds.

A visitor, Asyia Bibi, said it is important to organise such activities because children get an opportunity to learn from such events. "Children see these birds in their books, but when they see them in real they thoroughly enjoy these moments."

Lahore Zoo Education Office Kiran Saleem said they have also invited children of various schools so that they learn about foreign birds.

Veterinary doctor Warda told Express News that these birds are not only beautiful but also sensitive. "These birds are kept on a specific temperature. It is very important to protect them from extreme cold weather."
