Six killed, 789 injured in accidents across Punjab

The numbers also highlighted that 646 men and 143 women were among the total number of people affected

Six people were killed while 789 were injured in 687 road traffic accidents in the province during the past 24 hours, Rescue 1122 data showed.

Out of the total people that were injured, 495 sustained serious injuries and had to be shifted to hospitals. However, 288 sustained minor injuries and were provided first aid by rescue medical teams, reducing the burden on hospitals.

Majority of the incidents (85%) involved motorcycles illustrating the fact that effective enforcement of traffic laws and lane discipline is essential for reducing the number of crashes.


Further analysis of the numbers showed that 312 drivers, 10 underage driver, 90 pedestrians and 387 passengers were among the victims of the road accidents. Overall, 92 crashes which affected 96 people were reported in Lahore, placing the provincial capital at the top of the list. In second place is Faisalabad with 85 crashes and 102 victims and then Multan with 59 crashes and 63 victims.

The numbers also highlighted that 646 men and 143 women were among the total number of people affected. An analysis of their ages showed that 124 were under 18 years of age, 458 were between 18 and 40 and the remaining 207 were above 40 years of age.

The data also showed that 584 motorcycles, 78 cars, 21 vans, 5 passenger buses, 19 trucks and 81 other types of vehicles and carts were involved in the total number of accidents reported.
