SIALKOT:
A man allegedly sexually assaulted his fiancee in Sialkot, Express News reported on Friday.

A Rangpura police station official said that victim’s mother K*, a resident of Bin Phatak area, submitted a complaint. She stated that her daughter, M*, was engaged to Malik Aqeel and the couple’s wedding was due to be held on November 21, 2018.

She added that on the day of the incident, accused Aqeel came to her house and asked her daughter to accompany him for shopping.

The victim’s mother maintained that M* went with him, but instead of taking the girl to the shopping centre, the culprit took her to an abandoned house and allegedly raped her.

She mentioned that when the victim raised a hue and cry, the culprit left the victim in a semi-naked state and fled the scene. The police shifted the woman to the hospital for treatment and medical tests.

A case was registered against the suspect and raids were conducted to arrest him. Further investigations are under way.

Earlier, on September 10, a woman was abducted and raped in Faisalabad.

Police said that victim R*, a resident of Railway Colony Mohallah, Nishatabad, lodged a complaint at the police station in which she stated that Muhammad Shafique was a friend of her husband. She stated that the accused used to visit their home and promised that he would arrange a job for her in a factory.

The victim narrated that on the day of the incident, Shafique called her and said that they had to go to the factory to meet someone for the job. The woman maintained that she reached Lorry Ada where the accused was waiting for her on a motorcycle.

She alleged the culprit took her to a house where he and his accomplices Muhammad Sarwar, Muhammad Muneer and an unidentified man gang-raped her.

Rape cases in Pakistan are increasing and yet the victims face discrimination stemming from stereotypes and a hostile social system.

In 2016, the country was ranked 10th in the world with respect to the frequency of rape. In 2017, Pakistan stood 6th, according to a fact sheet compiled by the Pakistani Nari Tehreek (PNT), which has more than 100 women’s rights organisations as its members.

Earlier, a report released by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) stated that incidents of rape had been doubling every year since 2014.
