Telecom services: PTCL to invest Rs16b in next five years: MD

Company to introduce super-speed internet soon.

KARACHI:

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) would invest about Rs16 billion in the telecom sector over the next five years, stated PTCL Managing Director Walid Irshad.

Speaking at a meeting at the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) on Monday, Irshad said that PTCL would launch a super-speed internet service very soon and the Korangi Industrial Area would be the first where the service would be introduced.

He said that the era of conventional telephone exchanges was over and most modern exchanges would now be installed in Pakistan. He said that the first-ever new generation telephone exchange would be introduced in Karachi.

He said that PTCL had already minimised subscribers’ complaints and with the introduction of new services and new generation telephone exchanges, the complaints would disappear.

He said that PTCL was not being run just as a phone-service company but also as an investment-oriented company which was striving to introduce most modern telecommunications services.

KATI Chairman Syed Johar Ali Qandhari said the telecommunications sector played a vital role in trade and industry and asked the PTCL MD to set up a full-fledged cell at the trade association’s office so that subscribers’ woes could be addressed.
