PESHAWAR: With an improved security situation in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, an honoury consulate for the Czech Republic was inaugurated by the country's Ambassador, Jan Fury, in Peshawar on Tuesday.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Fury stressed on investment opportunities for foreigners in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as the security situation improves in the province.

Fury said he would encourage his countrymen to visit Peshawar; particularly the business community. The ambassador emphasised opportunity to improve trade, economic ties and public-to-public contact between the two countries.

He added the Czech Republic was one of the first countries to establish ties with Pakistan when it opened its first facility in 1950. “We are honoured to have an office in the provincial capital as we see the potential.”

Fury revealed the embassy had invited local businessmen to discuss trade ideas.

Honorary Consul General Asad Saifullah Khan said the facility’s opening was a turning point for the city – and promised a bright future for Pak-Czech ties. He mentioned events organised to celebrate the diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Khan highlighted military and defence cooperation agreements and investments made by the Czech Republic. He described his aim to ensure the trade between the two countries doubles in the next few years.

Khan said the provincial government, business community and locals were looking forward to increased opportunities. He hoped for projects with the Czech Republic in public and private sectors.
