5,000 perform security duty on Chehlum

Special arrangement remain in place across Quetta

More than 5,000 law-enforcement agencies personnel were deployed in the provincial capital on Tuesday to ensure security for the processions taken out on the Chehlum of the Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).

The main procession marched through Alamdar Road and Toghi road to culminate at Bahishty-e-Zainab graveyard in Marriabad.  Other, smaller processions were taken out from Hazara Town and other areas.

On the directives of home minister, special security arrangements were in place across the city while mobile phone service remained suspended during the day.


CCPO Quetta Abdul Razaq Cheema told the media that there were two processions in Quetta’s two separate neighbourhoods. After talks with the Shia community leaders “we had established watch towers at the hilly areas where both the processions culminated”, he added.

Police, Levies, Balochistan Constabulary and Frontier Corps personnel accompanied the participants of the processions on the directives of the provincial government, he added.

Balochistan Shia Conference President Syed Dawood Agha said that some 22 groups participated in the central procession. He expressed satisfaction over the security arrangements adopted by the provincial government.
