Italy’s Gaslini Hospital expresses desire to collaborate with NICH
Consul-General wants to create bridge between two nations for mutual benefit
KARACHI:
A team of paediatric specialists from Italy’s Gaslini Hospital visited the National Institute of Child Health (NICH) on Saturday. The Italian delegation visited various departments of NICH, including the newly commissioned medical intensive-care unit (ICU) with 13 beds and the ICU with 70 neonatal incubators, which is the largest such facility in the country.
Health promise: Capital to get 4 new hospitals
The delegation was headed by Dr Petralia, who was accompanied by Dr Ramenghi and Dr Rosati. The delegation appreciated the efforts of the NICH team in view of the excessive patient load that the hospital caters to from all over the country. The hospital serves over 1,000 patients daily in its outpatient department. Nearly 50% of the patients are from outside Karachi and treatment is provided free-of- charge. They also admired the range of diseases that the doctors treated, including some rare ones which they had not seen in Italy. The team also expressed its desire to create a programme of mutual collaboration between the two institutions.
ICTA proposes four mini-hospitals
The visit was arranged by the Italian Consulate in Karachi. Italian Consul-General in Karachi Anna Ruffino, speaking on the occasion, appreciated the efforts of NICH. She said that she was moved by the plight of Pakistani children and wanted to create a bridge between the two nations for their benefit.
