AJK council member pays tribute to IoK's martyred freedom fighter

Mir terms AMU's decision of barring Kashmiri students from offering Dr Wani's funeral prayers 'inhumane'

MUZZAFARABAD: Member Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Council and central leader of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Younas Mir on Monday paid glowing tributes to PhD scholar turned freedom fighter Dr Manan Wani and other martyred people in Indian-occupied Kashmir (IoK).



Mir termed the suspension of Kashmiri students at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) – who wanted to offer funeral prayers in absentia of their senior colleague and scholar Dr Wani – as "inhumane". He further remarked that the level of intolerance in so-called 'democratic India' has reached such a low that Kashmiri students are suspended for just offering funeral prayers.

Mir also appealed to the international community to exert pressure on India to reinstate the suspended students.

The AJK council member further said that Wani’s martyrdom was another proof of the ongoing liberation movement in IoK being indigenous and that it enjoys public support.



Mir said that Dr Wani had never crossed Line of Control (LoC ) and he was a promising scholar in AMU and questioned as to why a "highly qualified scholar joined the armed struggle to fight against Indian forces in IoK".



Mir further said that arresting All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leaders and political workers is a political vendetta and a highly undemocratic move aimed at forcing resistance leaders into submission.

The PPP leader also condemned the continuous arrests of APHC leaders Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Shah Gilani and Muhammad Yasin Malik; and the crackdown on other APHC workers across the occupied territory.

He appealed to global human rights bodies to take notice of the rising human rights abuses and continuous arrests of political workers in occupied Kashmir.
