Huawei unveils AI portfolio
Official says artificial intelligence will change all industries and organisations
SHANGHAI:
Chinese telecom giant Huawei has stated that artificial intelligence (AI) has become a new general purpose technology and will change all industries and organisations across the globe.
The company announced its AI strategy and full-stack, all-scenario AI portfolio that includes its new Ascend series of AI chips - the world’s first AI IP and chip series.
The new chips are designed for a full range of scenarios aimed at speeding up AI adoption in all industries to provide pervasive intelligence for a fully connected, intelligent world.
Speaking at the third annual Huawei Connect, a global event for the ICT industry, on Wednesday, Huawei Rotating Chairman Eric Xu said, “Huawei’s AI strategy is to invest in basic research and talent development, build a full-stack, all-scenario AI portfolio and foster an open global ecosystem.”
Huawei sees smartphone shipments rebounding in 2018 to over 200 million
The event, held at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Centre, was themed Activate Intelligence, with focus on AI, its challenges, opportunities, innovations and practices.
Huawei predicts that by 2025, the world will see more than 40 billion personal smart devices and 90% of device users will have a smart digital assistant. Data utilisation will reach 86% and AI services will be readily available.
Huawei ranked second in the international smartphone market
He said the chips would make a quantum leap in the realm of artificial intelligence. It is important that all of this be integrated with the work of building human skills and competencies that bear the responsibility of techniques and solutions of artificial intelligence for individuals and institutions.
Currently, only four institutions around the world are using intelligence and this is no doubt a small number considering the great potential possessed by artificial intelligence.
