Men need to stop being threatened by change: Varun Dhawan

Actor believes that more talent will shine through if there is equality

There are calls to make gender parity a reality in the entertainment industry and Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan feels men have an important role to play in this discourse, reported Business Standard. The Judwaa 2 star says men should stop feeling threatened and work towards creating a better work environment for all.

In an interview, Varun stated, "Men can be a big part of the dialogue and they should be a part of the change. I think men need to stop being threatened by this change and be more accepting of it."

He added that it is only going to be beneficial if there is equality, because more talent will shine through. The 31-year-old star continued, "Let people come through on the basis of talent. Let us not discriminate just because of gender. Talent should be the one that speaks the loudest and we have a lot of that in our industry."

Varun joined the industry in 2010 working as an assistant director to Karan Johar in My Name is Khan. Later, he made his acting debut with Student of the Year in 2012.

From playing the role of a small town boy from Jhansi in Badrinath Ki Dulhania, to getting the act right in dance film ABCD 2, Varun managed to ace his performance as an actor. With Badlapur and October, he proved that while many actors may come and go like the changing tide, he is here to stay. Varun is currently back on the silver screen as a tailor named Mauji in Sui Dhaaga.

The film highlights the untapped potential of India's talented craftsmen and skilled workers at the grass-root level and the challenges and issues faced by them. Helmed by Sharat Katariya, the film also stars Anushka Sharma.

Discussing his latest release, Varun stated, "Sui Dhaaga is a film that I am extremely proud of." Since he has worked behind the camera, he understand the techniques of film-making which are always helpful for the actor.

The October actor believes that the fear of failure is attached to every project but he's very positive about his latest film.
