Six killed, 1,014 injured in traffic accidents in Punjab

Out of those that were injured, 636 sustained major injuries

Around six people died, while 1,014 people were injured in 887 road traffic crashes in all 36 districts of the province over the last 24 hours.

Rescue 1122 data showed that out of the 887 that were injured, 636 sustained major injuries and had to be shifted to different hospitals. On the other hand, 372 people sustained minor injuries and were discharged after being given first aid by rescue medical teams.

An overwhelming majority of the incidents, 86% to be precise, involved motorbikes. There is a crucial need to enforce traffic laws in order to reduce the number of road traffic crashes.

Statistics showed that 444 drivers, 32 underage drivers, 119 pedestrians and 451 passengers were involved in the road accidents. The numbers highlighted that 212 accidents, affecting 211 people, were reported in Lahore alone, placing the provincial capital at the top of the list. Faisalabad comes in second with 89 accidents and 73 victims, while Multan follows with 73 road traffic incidents and 81 victims.

The data regarding those injured showed that 826 men and 188 women were among the 1,014 that were injured. Around 154 of those that were injured were under 18 years of age, 580 were between 18 and 40 and the rest were above 40-years-old.

The statistics highlighted that 722 motorbikes, 129 rickshaws, 82 motorcars, 48 vans, 19 passenger buses, 36 trucks and 106 other types of vehicles and slow moving carts were involved in the total number of road traffic accidents.
