Report recommends strict security at churches

Administrations of the churches have also been directed to make a comprehensive security plan

GUJRANWALA: In view of the threats faced by minorities’ places of worship, the special branch of Punjab police has recommended foolproof security at churches across Gujranwala division, Express News has learnt.

A report issued by intelligence agencies stated that there are 53 churches in six districts of Gujranwala division. Of them, eight have been included in Category A where people from the Christian community come in large numbers to worship. In addition, at least 212 churches have been included in Category B, while 310 churches have been included in Category C. The report recommended that police commandoes should be deputed at churches to protect the worshippers.

The administrations of the churches have also been directed to make a comprehensive security plan for the safety of the worshippers.

Similarly, the report highlighted that there is one temple for the Hindus in Sialkot and one gurdwara each for Sikhs in Gujranwala and Narowal districts.
