Two women died and 11 others, including a minor girl, were injured after a gas cylinder exploded in a house at Shapook area of Turbat on Friday.

The incident was followed by a fire in the house, according to Levies sources. It occurred when the females were busy in cooking, they added.

The Levies and Frontier Corps personnel as well as rescue workers rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to the District Headquarters Hospital.

From there, two critically injured women – having 70 per cent burn injuries – were shifted to Karachi’s Patel Hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.

Other injured women were shifted to PNS Mehran Naval Base in Karachi by the Pakistan Navy. Of them nine are in critical condition having 60 to 75 per cent burn wounds.

The wounded were identified as Fatima, Sameena, Amina, Zeenat, Saeeda, Sumaya, Shazia, Zainab, Sakeena, Naz Bibi and Aneesa.

Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan expressed grief over the tragic incident and lauded the efforts of the Pakistan Navy for assisting and transporting the injured to Karachi on humanitarian grounds.

“Pakistan Navy’s quick response saved many lives, and the provincial government will provide all assistance to the family,” the CM added.
