Dar removed from University of Health Sciences' board chairmanship
Justice Nisar directs to appoint new board chairman within three days
The apex court on Wednesday ordered the appointment of a new board chairman within three days after removing former finance minister and PML-N senior leader Ishaq Dar from the University of Health Sciences board chairmanship, Express News reported.
The Supreme Court took a suo moto notice regarding irregularities in the varsity's operations.
Red warrants issued to bring Dar back
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar said that NAB, FIA and Ministry of Foreign Affairs have been given instructions by the top court regarding Dar’s return to the country from Britain.
"Dar is an absconder in a NAB trial and his diplomatic passport has been revoked, keeping all these circumstances in mind we are removing Dar from the board's chairmanship, How can an absconder be allowed to remain a varsity's chairman?” CJP remarked during the proceedings.
Top court has been disgraced, says Justice Nisar after Dar fails to appear in SC
The CJP also said, “Ishaq Dar is not coming anymore [to the university],” adding, "According to the code of conduct there should be two meetings per year. After November 21, 2016 there hasn’t been a board meeting."
Justice Nisar, while referring to Dar, went on to say: "We will not let the functioning of the varsity be affected because of an absconder."
