NAB takes notice of dysfunctional desalination plants

People of Pasni, Jewani and Gadani have no other option but to opt for water tankers to fulfil their daily needs

QUETTA: Taking cognisance of three dysfunctional desalination plants in Pasni, Jewani and Gadani, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Balochistan Director General Mirza Muhammad Irfan Baig has issued notices to the Balochistan Development Authority (BDA) and others responsible.

BDA had initiated three different projects in Pasni, Jiwani and Dam Jati at a cost of Rs1 billion to address water shortage in the areas, but despite a passage of 12 years the desalination plants are not operational.

NAB DG Baig took notice of the alleged corruption that cost the national exchequer Rs1 billion and issued notices.
According to reports received by NAB, the people of the areas were forced to buy water tankers worth millions of rupees monthly.
Despite release of the money, no foundation of pipelines nor construction work could be seen on the sites, said reports.
