Domestic violence : Six injured after man throws acid on wife, mother-in-law

Police say woman had shifted to her parents’ house after an argument with husband

LAHORE: Manawan police have registered a case under different charges, including terrorism, against a suspect for throwing acid on his wife, mother-in-law and four other persons.

A first information report (FIR) was registered against the accused, identified as Shafaqat, on the complaint of Rani Bibi.

Police said the suspect was married to Nimra Shahzadi. The couple developed some differences and the woman left her husband and started staying at her parents' house. The accused had approached his in-laws for reconciliation but failed.

Family attacked with acid near Khanpur

On the day of the incident, the victim was travelling with her mother Rani Bibi in a Qingqi rickshaw when the suspect spotted them in Manawan. He was riding a motorcycle and he threw acid on them. Resultantly, six persons were affected. The woman and her mother suffered serious burns and were rushed to a nearby hospital.

The injured were identified as Rani Bibi, Nimra Shahzadi, Afshan Attique, Shehar Bano Ghulam Murtaza, and Aiza.

Police reached the spot, collected forensic evidence from the crime scene and recorded statements of the witnesses.

Similarly, another incident of the acid-throwing case was reported in Gujjarpura on Thursday. The victim, identified as Amna, was outside her house for some work in Gujjarpura when the suspect Waseem reportedly threw acid on her. She received burns and was admitted to a nearby hospital. The case hasn't been registered as yet.

Two suffer burns in acid attack

Meanwhile, two men died in a road accident in Shahdara Town. The victims, identified as Muhammad Afzal, a police constable, and his friend, Muhammad Atif, were on their way home on a motorcycle when a speeding truck rammed into their motorcycle near Abad Nagar on GT Road. They received injuries and were admitted to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced them dead.

Police arrested the truck driver’s assistant. However, the driver managed to flee after the accident.
