ISLAMABAD :
Minister of State for Interior Sheharyar Afridi has directed to ensure complete implementation on all points of the National Action Plan (NAP).

Chairing a meeting in Islamabad on Thursday with regard to security issues in the country he said provincial governments should work with the federal government like a team. The minister stressed need to further strengthen inter-provincial coordination.

The NAP, an action plan was established by the government in January 2015 to crack down terrorism and supplement the ongoing anti-terrorist offensive in Pakistan. It was considered a major coordinated state retaliation following the deadly Peshawar school attack in 2014.

What has NAP achieved so far?

The entire leadership of the country had agreed to implement 20 points of NAP. Initially, a lot of importance was given to it and a few points of it were implemented. However, later on with the passage of time, the things started changing and NAP became a forgotten history.

Meanwhile, Afridi paid a surprise visit to Passport and Immigration Headquarters in an attempt to learn about the issues being faced by the citizens. He inquired from the citizens of problems they were facing and on spot issued directives to resolve them immediately.

Moreover, he ordered the Director-General Passport and Immigration to visit passport offices every week. He also issued directives to give access to media persons to the headquarters as part of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s mission of transparency in all government departments.

The orders were issued after the minister received public complaints about the Headquarters of Passport and Immigration. The minister had received complaints that the general public face a lot of red-tapism in the offices of the passport and the headquarters seemed a no-go area for media.

Later, Afridi also observed encroachments which have been made by the commercial centres. He issued directives that within 24 hours these illegal commercial encroachments should be removed. He ordered that after the deadline of ultimatum these encroached buildings would be demolished by the authorities concerned.
