Pakistan's high commissioner to the United Kingdom Sahibzada Ahmed Khan was summoned to the Foreign Office on Thursday after pertinent minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi took notice of the diplomat's "inappropriate" conduct at a London awards show.

"I am dismayed by the actions of our high commissioner to the UK and have asked him to return to Pakistan and provide an explanation for his behaviour at the IPPA Awards held in London," the foreign minister said in a tweet.

Khan has been directed to present a written explanation. Qureshi became cognisant of the high commissioner's antics through reports on social and electronic media, the FO said.

The diplomat also engages in some 'light-hearted banter' with veteran actor-director Javed Sheikh. Other actors including Ahsan Khan, Sarwat Gilani and Mehwish Hayat can be seen in the video.

The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Mardan's Twitter account termed Khan's behaviour "indecent".

Others indulged in some rather scathing wordplay.
