Swara Bhaskar calls out director for 'shaming' rape survivors

Actor has never been know to shy away from speaking her mind...

Bollywood actor Swara Bhaskar never shies away from calling people out for inappropriate behaviour. So it comes as no surprise that she's found herself in the midst of yet another controversy, reported DNA India.

Recently, the Veere Di Wedding actor shared her two cents on Kerala MLA, PC George's statement regarding a nun who demanded the arrest of a bishop who allegedly raped her.

"Absolutely shameful and disgusting!!!! Scum present across political spectrums and religious divides in India. Literally nauseating!" Swara tweeted in regard to the politician's statement.

Film-maker Vivek Agnihotri then responded with, "Where is the placard - #MeTooProstituteNun," in a reference to the #MeToo movement against sexual harassment.

Swara, of course, did not let that slide and called the director out for using the trauma of women who are rape survivors to shame and abuse in public. "In the rare moments of sanity that may visit your brain - otherwise unhinged with hate - think about how low that is #scum," her tweet read.

She took one step further and went on to notify Twitter authorities against the abusive post. The social media site did not take long to acknowledge her complaint and get back to her, "... We have reviewed the account you reported and have locked it because we found it to be in violation of the Twitter rules. If the account owner complies with our requested actions and stated policies, the account will be unlocked," stated the message.

The actor then thanked Twitter and urged people not to allow bullies to shame them. "Thank you @TwitterIndia @TwitterSupport for taking cognisance of @vivekagnihotri's abusive tweet. And making him delete it! No tolerance for cyber bullying and abuse of women on public platforms! (Or private - but one thing at a time)," she wrote.

With a red arrow marked at Vivek's now deleted tweet, she added, "Thank you #SayNoToBullying Girls (and boys and everyone) DO NOT allow cyber bullies and haters to shame you or humiliate you on public platforms! Resist, challenge and call out bullies and misogynists. Thank you @TwitterIndia @Twitter @TwitterSupport. You just made the virtual public sphere a little bit better."
