MPA demands Pakistan sever ties with US

Says Washington must recognise Pakistan’s sacrifices in war on terror

LAHORE: An opposition MPA demanded that the government end its relationship with the US if the latter fails to acknowledge the sacrifices made by Pakistan in the war against terror.

PML-N’s MPA Hina Pervez Butt put the demand forward through a resolution she submitted in the Punjab Assembly.

She said Pakistan had been fighting against terrorism for three decades. She said over 70,000 citizens and armed forces personnel were targeted by terrorists. “Pakistan has faced losses of billions after becoming part of American’s war. Despite this, Washington has had demanded that the country “do more”.



She said former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was the first man in his position who responded by saying “no more”. As a result, the US withheld a massive chunk of its funding to Pakistan.

She demanded the government establish an equality-based relationship with the US. She further suggested severing the relationship if the US failed to recognise the sacrifices of Pakistani people.

“We should learn from our mistakes and prefer the country’s interests.” She also warned the US not to put the onus of its failure in Afghanistan on Pakistan.
