While remakes of old classics are taking the Bollywood industry by storm, the rendition of Chalte Chalte by Atif Aslam for Mitron was an utter disappointment. Lata Mangeshkar - the singer of the original version - hasn't heard Atif's rendition but was quick to share her discontent on the remix, reported The Indian Express.

Atif Aslam's remake of 'Chalte Chalte' fails to give goosebumps

Initially featured in the 1972 Bollywood classic PakeezahChalte Chalte was picturised on the tragedy queen Meena Kumari. It is a tune that people still hum to this day. On the contrary, the new version of Chalte Chalte strips the song of its true essence and fails to leave goosebumps.

Speaking of the remix, Lata said, "I don’t want to hear it. This trend of remixing old songs saddens me. Where is the creativity in simply lifting acknowledged, beloved classics and shuffling the notes around? I’ve even heard that the lyrics are changed in the remixes. By whose consent? The original poets and composers wrote what they had to. Nobody has the right to tamper with the creativity of these great composers and lyricists."

Indian singer and politician Babul Supriyo is no fan of Atif's singing either. He stated, "Today, even the poetic term 'artistic liberty' is at the verge of extinction. With due respect to Atif Aslam, as a singer myself, I will observe a two-minute silence to mourn rather than offer a comment."

Another artist Alka Yagnik whose song Dilbar Dilbar was remixed for Satyameva Jayate didn't shy away from giving her opinion. She said, "Why don’t they make a new song into a hit, instead of picking up an already super hit song, distorting it, and releasing it again. And then they say that it's become so popular."

The 52-year-old singer added that while it is "okay" that this is happening with her songs, she couldn't believe the younger crop of musicians "have the audacity" to remix Lata's songs.

shakeel mahota | 5 years ago | Reply The worrying thing is that why good original music compositions are becoming extinct...
Ghessan | 5 years ago | Reply well, this is really sad the way they are justifying with oldies. And this man i don't even consider him a proper singer and i know anyone with a knowledge of music would second me. He was lucky to enter Bollywood, it does not mean he is some big shot. It is Bollywood that is down with its standards.
