ISLAMABAD:

Federal Minister for Environment Samina Khalid Ghurki has said that the industrial sector should play its due role in meeting environmental obligations.

The industry must take a step ahead to bring green revolution in the country by adopting environmentally-friendly practices, she said while chairing a meeting here on Monday on the use of shredded tyres as an alternative fuel in the cement industry.

The industrial sector has to play a pivotal role in providing the desired stimulus and support to the efforts of the government to overcome environmental challenges, she said.

It was pointed out that there was a need to develop specific standards for upgrading and modernising the industry for the use of Tyre Derived Fuel.

Moreover, a committee headed by Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) DG Asif Shuja and comprising members of EPA and provincial EPAs was formed to develop parameters and new environmental standards for TDF.
