A public contact campaign for the restoration of Bahawalpur province was launched on Monday by the Bahawalpur National Awami Party (BNAP) chief and Ameer of Bahawalpur Nawab Salahuddin Abbasi.
Abbasi said that the province would be restored for the poor as it was their sacred trust. “The people of Bahawalpur had not allowed the Sikh army to cross River Satluj and they will not let the opponents of the restoration of the Bahawalpur province cross the river,” he said, while addressing a huge gathering at Basti Nihal Abbasi, Sadiqabad.
BNAP president Malik Farooq Azam, secretary general Senator Muhammad Ali Durrani and other party leaders also addressed the meeting as part of a public contact campaign following the Bahawalpur Declaration of April 14. “I can’t see the agreement between Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and my grandfather Nawab Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi being torn to pieces. We have no objection to creation of a new province but we will not let anyone include Bahawalpur in the Saraiki province,” Nawab Salahuddin Abbasi added.
