QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan has vowed to equip the police force with modern technology in order to enhance their performance in fighting terrorism and eradicating crime.

Chairing a session regarding the performance and challenges faced by the Balochistan police on Saturday, the chief minister said sacrifices rendered by the police force have resulted in peace in the province.

The session continued for five long hours where high-ups of the police department were also present and gave a detailed briefing to the chief minister regarding the performance of police, law and order, terrorism, crime and their welfare needs.

Chief Minister Kamal expressed his contentment over the performance of police force, saying use of technology would promote pro-masses attitude, accountability and improve the force’s performance.

Kamal said, “Request for special grant shall be put forth before Prime Minister Imran Khan to provide all modern facilities to the Balochistan police.”

He said along with the modern facilities, funds would also be provided to the police for residential facilities, adding that the police stations would be computerised.

Praising the preparation of the five-year reform project of police, the CM said, “The government will make all possible efforts for the implementation of all the clauses included in the police reform plan.” The assistance to the families of the martyred policemen would continue, he added.

“Incentives will also be provided to the police personnel who exhibit better performance,” said Kamal.

BAP says no one did anything for Balochistan

The CM said policies that benefit the masses should be introduced, vowing that his government would strengthen institutions and promote merit.

He also praised Balochistan Inspector General of Police Mohsin Hassan Butt’s suggestion of establishing reconciliatory committees at all police stations across the province, saying that approval for this suggestion would be taken from the provincial cabinet and it would be implemented.

“Such a move will have people solve their disputes within the framework of the law through negotiations and it will also reduce pressure on the police force,” he added.

Kamal also approved the ongoing recruitment process in the police department and advised to make new recruitment purely on merit.

The CM stressed the need of changing the “thana culture” and making the police a pro-masses force. He also urged to minimise the distance between police and the masses in order to improve confidence of the masses in the force.

Directions were issued to the authorities to improve their investigation methods and the capability of investigation officers.
Expressing his displeasure over the delay in establishment of Traffic Engineering Bureau in Quetta, Kamal directed the authorities to remove the hurdles in the way of the project to make its completion a reality at the earliest.

In his briefing, Balochistan IG told the CM that as many as 399 police personnel and officers had been martyred since 2013 in Balochistan and it was due to their sacrifices that peace was established in Balochistan.
