Contrary to popular belief, sneakers can work with any outfit. You can pair them up with a simple t-shirt and jeans or a cute summer dress and these super versatile feet candies will pull the entire look together and keep you super comfy while at it.
But keep in mind that wearing sneakers involves a certain set of rules one must follow. Compiled from Style Blueprint, here is a list of five tips to you can try to up your sneaker game this season.
1. Show off your ankle bone
Make a statement with your sneakers. The best way to ensure they get noticed is to cuff your pants enough that they expose your ankle bone. You can also opt to hem them at the bottom or simply cut them. Make sure that your pants are the perfect length so that your sneakers are completely on display. And then, opt for low-top sneakers to complete the look.
2. Hide your socks
While socks often help absorb sweat and preventing foot odour, they can also ruin your outfit. Opt for low-rider, ankle socks or ditch them completely. The thought of having their bare skin touch the insides of shoes can scare many but fashion often demands sacrifice. So, instead of socks, wash your feet and put the sneakers on.
3. Choose solid colours or classic pieces
For most people, solid-coloured footwear does the trick. Classic stripes might seem very old-fashioned but that's really all that you need. Keep the retro vibe consistent as the age-old Converse All-Stars are not only pleasing to the eye, but super comfy as well. Slip-on sneakers are a safe choice too.
4. Be careful when wearing skirts or dresses
If you're choosing to wear a dress or a skirt that falls right above your knee, pair it with a cross-body bag before you put your sneakers on. The look will justify that you have a lot of walking to do and also make you look stylish. If you're opting for a denim dress, why not go for some colourful sneakers? Or compliment summer dresses with slip-ons.
5. Cleanliness is key
Make sure your sneakers are clean at all times. Clean shoes add sharpness to your look. Avoid whites if you live in a muddy area. You can also apply an some candle wax on them to prevent stains.
