Humaima Malick accuses local hotel for breach of privacy

Actor claims the hotel's management passed on details of her stay to other guests

KARACHI: Bol actor Humaima Malick, on Wednesday, called out a local hotel in Lahore for breaching her privacy. Taking to Twitter, the actor posted a series of screenshots from an unknown sender who heard her being upset over something.

"Evidence of the harassment I had to endure at Nishat Hotel," the 30-year-old actor wrote. "Beware if you lose a loved one and someone dies in your family while staying at Nishat - you cannot cry in your room otherwise people might drop business cards."

In another tweet, Humaima shared her feelings about the incident, claiming the hotel's management passed on details of her stay to other guests. "I think its high time I come forward and share my experience of harassment and how an educated class also choose to take such important issues lightly," she wrote.

Talking to The Express Tribune, the Arth actor's manager, Sahar said, "Humaima is a regular guest at the said hotel. Whenever she visits Lahore, she stays there. Since the incident, she had to switch hotels and she is absolutely appalled. She is yet to be contacted and apologised by the hotel management."

The Nishat Hotel's reservation officer, Bilal Khwaja told the publication that the allegation is currently being reviewed by the general manager, Shahid Abbas.

"We have no news of any incident being reported and whatever allegation Ms Humaima has accused the management of, is currently under review by our general manager," he said.

Meanwhile, the Dekh Magar Pyar Se actor shared her ordeal in detail. "I can't emphasise this enough as the numbers or times actresses, models, singers or performers are subjected to harassment," she tweeted.

"I can't even keep count of times business cards of men that I do not know have been slipped under the door of my room at various well known and supposedly safe hotels," the post read.  "Just because a woman is from entertainment business does not, DOES NOT means that she wants business cards slipped under her door."

The actor accused the hotel for breaching her privacy and leaking her information to strangers. "Nishat hotel has been negligent and deliberately involved in breaching my privacy and trust by sharing my information with another guest staying at their hotel," she continued.



"The hotel has ignored my concerns about being harassed by another hotel guest. They failed to take any action and make me feel safe and secure at their own establishment," she said. "Their lack of action just goes to show just how lax their standards of hospitality, a guest's privacy and security are."

Humaima stated she finds it disgusting that after fighting for gender equality for almost half a century, it is still ignored to such a great extent. "I would speak for myself but I'm sure most of my colleagues will agree," concluded Humaima.
