CHINIOT: A newborn child died after the mother gave birth on hospital grounds in Chiniot, Express News reported. The medical staff allegedly refused to admit the woman in the District Headquarter Hospital.

The woman’s relatives told Express News that Sana Bibi, a resident of Jangran Wala, went into labour and was brought to the hospital. However, instead of admitting her, a lady doctor told the woman to go home stating that there were several days until the baby would be born.

They added that despite their efforts to admit her, the hospital staff refused to do so.

They maintained that Sana Bibi’s labour pains were unbearable and she spent the entire night in the health facility’s corridor seeking medical aid. The next morning Sana gave birth on the hospital ground.

However, the infant died minutes after the birth as the hospital staff failed to provide him and the mother with adequate medical treatment.

After the incident, the lady doctor and the hospital staff fled the scene. Later, the medical superintendent arrived at the scene and admitted the woman to the hospital.

Meanwhile, the woman’s husband and relatives staged a protest demonstration against the hospital staff’s negligence and demanded the Punjab government conduct an inquiry into the incident and award punishment to those responsible.

Earlier in a similar incident, a woman gave birth to a child on hospital grounds after the medical staff refused to admit her to Khanpur District Hospital in Rahim Yar Khan.

The woman’s husband Abdul Sattar, a resident of Laal Garh, told Express News that he brought his pregnant wife Haseena Bibi to the hospital after she went into labour but was unable to admit her to the health facility due to the unavailability of an emergency entrance token.
