DERA GHAZI KHAN: In yet another incident, a woman gave birth to a child on hospital grounds after the medical staff allegedly refused to admit her in Dera Ghazi Khan’s Teaching Hospital.

The woman’s husband Mukhtar Chandio, a resident of Mitthi Koh, told Express News that he brought his pregnant wife to the hospital after she went into labour but instead of admitting her, the staff and doctors asked him to bring his wife’s ultrasound and x-ray reports.

“My wife was suffering from labour pains and despite my efforts to admit her, the hospital staff refused to do so,” he maintained. “I had no other option but to lay her on the hospital ground where my wife gave birth to a baby girl surrounded by people,” he added.

Later, after hearing the woman’s screams, doctors transferred both the child and mother to the labour room.

Meanwhile, the woman’s husband and relatives staged a protest demonstration against the hospital staff’s negligence and demanded the Punjab health secretary conduct an inquiry into the incident and award punishment to those responsible.

When contacted, Teaching Hospital Medical Superintendent Ateequr Rehman Chishti denied the allegations and said that the woman was provided treatment as soon as she reached the health facility.

However, he added an inquiry into the incident had been ordered and strict action will be taken against those involved in negligence.
