City Traffic Police launches campaign for public safety

LAHORE: For public safety, the City Traffic Police launched a campaign ‘wear helmets, ride safely’ on Saturday and distributed free helmets among motorcyclists at Liberty roundabout. Under the first phase, the city police will distribute more than 2,000 helmets. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Traffic Office Captain (retd) Liaquat Ali Malik said that from the second week of August, motorcyclists won’t be able to ride motorcycles on roads without wearing helmets. Wearing a helmet keeps us safe from injuries, he said, adding that it’s a law to wear a helmet and those who break the law will be fined by the police. “Become a responsible citizen and don’t waste the time of the policemen.” He said that the majority of people cannot afford cars so the only alternative they have is motorcycles. If one can afford to buy a motorcycle then a helmet can be bought too, he said. He urged citizens to wear helmets while riding motorcycles as life is precious.
