HYDERABAD:
Drizzle in Hyderabad and its adjoining districts on Monday morning triggered power suspension lasting from eight to 10 hours in Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Tando Muhammad Khan and other districts. The light rain reportedly led to faults in electric supply feeders of the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco), resulting in prolonged power suspension.

Hesco Spokesperson Sadiq Kubar claimed that 42 out of 80 feeders in Hyderabad were affected by the drizzle. However, residents of almost all parts of Hyderabad district complained about power breakdown.

Work to restore feeders started four hours after the power cut, however, it took the company till late afternoon to resume electricity supply to a majority of the areas of Hyderabad district. The spokesperson also did not explain reasons behind the faults in the feeders and why it always took as long as 10 or more hours to restore the power supply.

Power shortfall hits record peak

Hesco is also carrying out routine load-shedding as a collective punishment for line losses for up to four hours in urban areas and eight hours in rural areas. The power utility is responsible for supplying power to 13 districts of Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and Nawabshah divisions through its 488 feeders and 75 grid stations.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast more light rains in Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas divisions in the coming days. The maximum rainfall was recorded on Monday in Dahili taluka of Tharparkar at 40 millimetres (mm), while five mm rain was recorded in Hyderabad's rural taluka.
