Development on several ventures remains suspended

Various projects helmed by previous government are still unfinished

MULTAN: Development work on several health projects in Multan remains suspended, despite the tall claims made by the previous government during their five-year long tenure.

Various projects, including the expansion of a 200-bed cardiology centres, the construction of a district headquarters hospital, the construction of a cancer treatment centre at Nishtar Hospital and the Pak-Italian burn units, have not yet been completed.

In addition to this, the children’s’ complex at the Shehbaz Sharif General Hospital has also not been made functional.



The Multan Institute of Kidney Disease, which was built at a cost of over a billion rupees, has now been handed over to the Indus Group after the government refused to take any responsibility.

Similarly, the district headquarters hospital, which was built along with the kidney centre for a whopping Rs1.98 billion, was also abandoned by the government. Construction on the hospital was left incomplete, causing citizens undue stress and burden.

Previously, the government had allocated funds for the construction of several hospitals. In this budget, Rs80 million were reserved for the construction of Nishtar Medical Hospital, Rs60 million for the construction of lecture halls, Rs180 million for upgrading the radiology department, Rs800 million for a cancer treatment centre, Rs110 million for upgrading the drug testing laboratory and Rs500 million for upgrading the cardiology centre.

Despite this allocation of funds, none of the projects have been finished during the tenure of the government. According to people living in the district, only three hospitals are currently operational. These included Shehbaz Sharif General Hospital, Civil Hospital and Fatima Jinnah Women’s Hospital.
