In a bizarre development, the provincial election commission of Punjab appointed a deceased professor as a presiding officer.
Shaukat Ali – an assistant professor at Government MAO College Lahore who died on January 26, 2018 – had been appointed as a presiding officer in constituency No 130.
Retired employees included in lists of election officers
On the other hand, Muhammad Ilyas Tahir – a former principal of Government College China Town in Lahore who retired on March 31, 2018 – had been appointed as a focal person of the area.
The appointment of a deceased and a retired principal raises questions on the performance of the provincial election organising authority.
