Golra police fail to submit report on botched raid

Man was shot dead during raid, mother pleads innocence.

ISLAMABAD:

The Golra Police failed yet again to submit its report before the court on a raid by Shalimar Police during which a man was shot dead. During the course of the hearing on Tuesday at the trial court, Nusrat Ali Sub Inspector (SI) Golra Police Station appeared before the court and requested for adjournment of the case as the judicial inquiry is still pending. However, Additional Sessions Judge Muhammad Rafat Sultan Sheikh directed him to submit a detailed report on June 3.

On May 6, the deceased’s mother had filed an application before the court seeking an FIR registration against some police officials of Shalimar who killed her 24-year-old son during a raid at his house in Quaid Town near Jhangi Syedan.

She said some police officials entered her house on April 29 and started firing gunshots. Two of the officials shot dead Siraj Khan, her son, who was working in Saudi Arabia and was on a visit to Pakistan.

Claiming her son’s innocence, she said the police officers had killed him without any reason. “They also illegally detained two of my other sons, Jamal Khan and Jahangir Khan,” she added

She visited Golra Police Station to register an FIR but said the police were reluctant to lodge it. She said she also submitted an application before the Senior Superintendent Police and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) but they did not pay heed.

Police, on the other hand, claimed that Siraj Khan had kidnapped 28-year-old Ali Waqar Zakria and demanded Rs 100 million ransom. They failed to recover the victim during the raid but claimed to have recovered his jacket from the house.

Siraj’s two brothers were arrested and an FIR registered against them in Golra police Station.

On May 6, the court had directed SHO Qasim Khan to submit a report on May 14. But the SHO requested an extension till May 24. He failed to submit the report yet again on Tuesday.
