Water woes: Police reluctant to take action

Irrigation Department and farmers organizations moved 3,500 complaints of water theft to various police stations.

FAISALABAD:
Incidents of water theft are reportedly increasing in the Faisalabad Irrigation Zone.

In 2011, the Irrigation Department and farmers organizations have moved over 3,500 complaints to various police stations of the district for registration of cases against 47,935 accused involved in water theft.

Police have failed to register most cases and only 483 cases of water theft have been registered in the district. Irrigation officials expressed concern over the indifferent attitude of the police, adding that such attitudes encouraged water theft.
