Caretaker CM wants proper cleanliness on Tariq Road

Fazlur Rehman forms committee to address builders' complaints

KARACHI: Caretaker Sindh Chief Minister Fazlur Rehman has directed the District East administration to ensure proper cleanliness on Tariq Road.

"The filthy look of the newly constructed road defaces the entire area," the CM said, while talking on Thursday to a delegation of Tariq Road Traders Welfare Association led by Aslam Bhatti at CM House. Other members in the delegation included Muhammad Asad Towfique, Fawad Hussain, Kaleem Shahryar and others.

The CM said he had visited Tariq Road and found that shopkeepers and customers had thrown trash on the road. "It [Tariq Road] is a beautiful road and is being defaced with trash. Its cleanliness must be maintained properly and you as an association should educate your members," he said. The CM also directed the District Municipal Corporation East and East deputy commissioner to ensure regular cleanliness of the road.

The delegation informed Rehman that one of its members, Shahryar, had made a two-kilometre long white flag. The association wanted to launch the flag at Sea View where people would sign it to promote peace in the country. The CM directed the culture department to support the association in launching the white flag.

CM meets ABAD delegation

The CM also presided over a joint meeting of the Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD) and local government department at CM House.



The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary Mukhtiar Soomro, Secretary to CM Hafeez Umrani, Local Government Secretary Khalid Hyder Shah, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) Managing Director (MD) Khalid Shaikh, Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) Director-General Iftikhar Qaimkhani, ABAD Chairperson M Arif Yousif Jeewa, Sohail Warind, Altaf Tai, Junaid Ashraf and others.

The ABAD representatives informed the CM that more than 400 of their applications seeking no-objection certificates (NOC) for projects were pending with the KWSB for the last several months. The KWSB MD responded that the water board could not issue NOCs for new water connections when water was not available in its system. He added, however, that the board would start issuing NOCs when K-IV, a bulk water project for the city, would be completed.

The KWSB MD also quoted a Supreme Court decision, according to which the board could not issue NOCs until more water was provided to Karachi. The CM directed the MD to get the apex court order interpreted and constituted a four-member committee, comprising two members from ABAD and one each from the KWSB and SBCA, to sit together and settle the issue.

Meeting with German envoy

German Consul-General Ortwin Hening called on the CM at CM House. They discussed bilateral relations, trade, energy and other matters of mutual interest at the meeting. Rehman presented an ajrak and a Sindhi cap as souvenirs to the envoy.
