KARACHI:

Water supply to Karachi has been disrupted once again following a forced power shutdown at the Dhabeji Pumping Station by K-Electric, according to a spokesperson for the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC).

K-Electric announced an emergency shutdown at 6:30pm on Saturday, to carry out urgent repairs on a critical fault in Power Transformer No. 1 at the Dhabeji Grid Station.

The KWSC spokesperson said that the shutdown forced 10 of the 21 pumping units at the Dhabeji Pumping Station to go offline, severely affecting the city's water transmission system and interrupting water supply to several areas of Karachi.

Initially, K-Electric informed KWSC that the power outage would last for approximately one hour. However, no confirmed timeline has yet been provided for the full restoration of electricity.

KWSC management is closely monitoring the situation and remains in constant contact with K-Electric to ensure the earliest possible restoration of power and normalisation of water supply.
