Manal Waqi spends Eid in the vibrant city of Dubai

There are very few festivities that bring family and friends together like the celebration of Eid. This year was no different for me in terms of festivities, although this year marked my first Eid in my new home city Dubai, with my new family, friends and acquaintances. Here is how I spent Eid 2018 in this vibrant city



Chand Raat

8:00pm

With a strong belief that good hair is needed for good mood, I began my Chand Raat festivities by heading out to the Kérastase hair salon in City Walk. Dedicated to expert hair treatments and led by trained professionals, this salon is most certainly one of my Dubai favourites for the perfect blow-dry. My picture-perfect blow-dry had me ready for the upcoming Eid festivities.

10:00pm

As a result of hosting an open house on the first day of Eid, I spent the evening running errands with my mother. Looking for the perfect snacks and desserts, we headed to the local favourite, Kamath, for some spicy samosas and indulgent sweets, such as Gulab Jamun and  Boondi Ke Ladoo. The next stop was French Bakery, a Dubai staple for mouth-watering desserts; particularly prominent for their delectable cakes.



Eid Day 1

11:00am

I began the first day of Eid by getting ready. My choice of designer this Eid was Ansab Jahangir. Having been a loyal FTA wearer for the past three years, this Eid I decided to venture out of my comfort zone with the currently trending, Karachi-based designer. Her mint green, asymmetrical kurta paired with culottes and  a pair of Jimmy Choo wedges made for a simple yet vibrant ensemble for a hot summery day.

12:00pm

Hosting an open-house for Eid, from 12:00pm onwards (all the way till 11:00pm in the evening), our house was open to family friends, work acquaintances and relatives for celebrations. The table was laid out throughout the day with Haleem, sweets, samosas and a constantly replenished supply of chai. This proved to be a fun way to celebrate Eid away from home, in the presence of our favourite people.

Eid Day 2

9:00pm

Post activities and celebrations of the first day of Eid, the second day proved to be quite slow, with me and  my family resting all day and going out in the evening to watch Race 3 (a movie which I definitely don’t recommend).
