LHC overturns election tribunal decision, allows Fawad to contest polls
PTI leader had challenged election tribunal's decision earlier today
LAHORE:
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry on Thursday was allowed to contest upcoming polls from NA-67 (Jhelum) following a Lahore High Court decision.
The Lahore High Court ruled in favour of Fawad in an appeal filed against an appellate tribunal’s rejection of his nomination papers.
Tribunal disqualifies ex-PM from contesting election for 'not being Sadiq and Ameen'
In the petition, Fawad claimed that the election tribunal rejected papers over the missing details of Rs3.2million spent on international trips.
Fawad argued he had attached a copy of a certificate by the Federal Bureau of Revenue which detailed the accounts. “Tribunal disregarded enclosed documents and announced disqualification.”
The PTI leader had requested the court to void the appellate tribunal’s verdict and allow him to contest elections.
