Chelsea fired manager Carlo Ancelotti after a 1-0 loss at Everton completed a season which had ‘fallen short of expectations’, said the club in a statement.
In his post-match press conference, Ancelotti had said he expected to meet Chelsea bosses next week to discuss his future. “I’m now on holiday but I am not sure how long my holiday will be,” he said. “I think in the next week the club can address my job and they will take a decision.”
Ferguson praises United’s performance
Sir Alex Ferguson watched his title-winning United side bring the curtain down on their successful campaign with a 4-2 victory over Blackpool.
“The players have been great and they deserve it,” said Ferguson. “There’s been a lot of great performances. We’ve beaten Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham. We’ve beaten all the top teams here. That’s pretty good.”
Captain Nemanja Vidic dedicated the club’s 19th Premier League title to United fans and warned that ‘it’s not going to be the last one’ as the Serbian defender got his hands on the Premier League trophy.
