CM wants no unannounced load-shedding in city

Seven-hour power cuts being carried out in Karachi, claims K-E

KARACHI: Sindh Caretaker Chief Minister Fazlur Rehman has urged K-Electric (K-E) not to resort to unannounced load-shedding in the city.

The CM asked the power utility to stop unannounced power cuts while presiding over a joint meeting of K-E and the energy department at CM House. The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary to CM Sohail Rajput, K-E Board Chairperson Tayyab Tareen,  K-E External Affairs Director Asmer Naeem, Energy Special Secretary Rashid Kazi and Energy Department Director Tariq Shah.

There should be uninterrupted power supply in the city and no unannounced loads-shedding should be carried out, the CM said.

Tareen informed the CM that the power demand during the peak hours of Ramazan surged to 3,500 megawatts (MW) this year, whereas it was 3,200MW during last year's Ramazan.



The CM was informed that the Sui Southern Gas Company was providing 190 million cubic feet of gas per day to K-E, and therefore, all its gas-based power plants were operating at their full capacity. The power utility claimed that over all seven-hour load-shedding was being carried out in the city.

Campaigns for the upcoming polls were going on in full swing, Rehman said. He directed the power utility to take necessary measures to reduce load-shedding in the election season.

 

Election Complaint Cell

The CM also inspected the Election Complaint Cell established at CM House and issued directives to the staff for the computerisation of complaint record and redress of the complaints on a priority basis.

Rehman was briefed by his principal secretary about facilities that had been made available at the complaint cell. The CM was informed that all complaints received by the cell were being recorded in a computerised system with date and time.



The CM checked the record of complaints and their transmission to the authorities for redress. Rehman also issued directives to all the departments to cooperate with the cell.
