Balochistan religious affairs minister quits

New minister will soon be inducted, says CM Marri

Rehman has resigned and a new minister will replace him soon, Marri told the media

QUETTA:
Minister for Zakat and Religious Affairs Hafiz Khalil-ur-Rehman has resigned from Balochistan’s caretaker cabinet, and interim Chief Minister Allauddin Marri has accepted his resignation.

“Rehman has resigned and a new minister will replace him soon,” Marri told newsmen on Wednesday.

Rehman, a nominee of the Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazal (JUI-F), had submitted his resignation to the CM four days back, but no concrete reason was cited in the resignation.

However, according to sources, Rehman’s wife is a candidate for Balochistan Assembly on women-reserved seats, and his resignation may be linked to it.

Balochistan interim cabinet ministers allotted portfolios

The constitution of Pakistan says, “The caretaker ministers, their wives, children, brothers and even close relatives cannot contest election.”

Rehman’s resignation has paved the way for his wife to contest election, said the sources.
