We chat with the fabulous duo behind Beauty Bar

June 21, 2018

Having always been passionate about beauty and everything that comes with grooming, Ayesha Fahd and Sana Verho brought their dream of bringing affordable beauty to everyone to life! While Ayesha runs the beautifying aspect, Sana looks after the business side of it – perfectly balancing their duties and taking responsibility for each of their fortes. We catch up with the two to tell us all about their latest venture and find out all there is to know about Beauty Bar!

Tell us a little about Beauty Bar?

Sana & Ayesha: Beauty Bar is a high-end, all service salon that offers luxury services at competitive prices. We aim to provide clients with top notch hygiene, quality products and a relaxing ambiance to bring out the best in them.

How did your career begin in the world of beauty?

Sana: It all started 13 years ago, when we both started our careers at Pivot Point. Ayesha was working as a senior educator back then while I was taking care of the business side of it. We always knew we were a team. And together we worked there for a good part of the decade.

What do you love most about your job?

Ayesha: I love that every day is a brand new canvas for me. I get to paint a new face or sculpt a different haircut/colour every day, which I find so exciting - and the feeling is just amazing when a client walks out happy feeling good about herself!

Sana: I love everything about it! I look forward to the challenges and opportunities that each day presents including taking care of the finances, marketing and everything related to your own business! To watch your business grow day by day is definitely a pleasure.

Can you name a face you would like to transform and why?

Sana: For me, every client who walks into Beauty Bar looking for a transformation needs to leave with one. From a business point of view as well as personal, nothing excites me more than having a client walk out feeling beautiful.

Ayesha: Marilyn Monroe has always been my muse. While most of the people know her for a signature red lip and kitten flick eye liner, I would have loved to experiment more looks on her face.

What are some common beauty mistakes that women make?

Sana: One of the most common beauty mistake women make is to want something that they have seen in a magazine, on social media or even on a celebrity without giving any thought to the fact that it may or may not suit them or their style.

Ayesha: Wrong foundation choice! When women pick the wrong shade for their skin and when they forget to match their face to their neck! Also, long hair could be sexy but it’s definitely not for everyone.

What made you decide to open up your own salon?

Sana: The need to work for myself!

Ayesha: I think I had lent my services to others for way too long and after a strong push by my husband, I realised it was time.

Describe your make-up style in three words?

Sana: I’m not a beauty artist myself, so my personal choice is always minimal make-up. As far as Beauty Bar is concerned, I think our style is very client specific while being feminine and natural.

Ayesha: For every day, I’m natural. When I do wear make-up, my style is dramatic, sexy and warm with a twist of a classic look.

What three make-up items should no woman leave home without?

Sana: Eye brow pencil, blush-on and a lipstick.

Ayesha: Concealer, mascara and blush-on.

What are the biggest challenges beauticians have to face?

Sana: To maintain the same level of service, every single time.

Ayesha: With a plethora of salons in the city, the main challenge is to offer something different and above the rest to set you apart and that’s exactly what BB aims at!

Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see left behind?

Sana: Overly-contoured faces!

Ayesha: Trying too hard to look fair!

What are some products/tools that you swear by?

Sana: Aloe-vera and great customer service!

Ayesha: Invest in a good moisturiser and a night cream!

How do you wish to make a change in the beauty scene in Karachi?

Sana & Ayesha: We at Beauty Bar wish to make beauty affordable.

Any word of advice for someone trying to get into the business?

Sana & Ayesha: Start small but dream big and make
it work!
