For a month: Rallies, processions banned in South Waziristan

District govt receives reports about certain elements involved in hate speech

PESHAWAR: The district administration of South Waziristan on Sunday banned rallies, processions and public gatherings in the area for a month.

A notification in this regard was issued by the South Waziristan District Deputy Commissioner Suhail Khan under Section-144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).

As a result, all public gatherings and processions will be banned for a month ‘to maintain public order and peace’ in the tribal areas that fall in the district.

The notification states that the district government has received reports about certain elements who involved in objectionable, prejudicial and hate speeches against the state institutions in public gatherings and processions which can disturb the public peace and law and order situation in the districts due to which they have sufficient grounds to impose a ban on such gatherings.



Now, if anyone wishes to hold public gathering over the next 30 days, prior approval would have to be obtained from the district administration of South Waziristan.

Any procession or rally without prior approval will be considered as a violation of the section-144 and they would be punishable under the section-188 of the Pakistan Penal Code, it added.
