LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) sought a reply from the federal government and others on a petition seeking an order to put an end to unannounced power outages in the month of Ramazan and decrease the duration of announced loadshedding.

Justice Shahid Karim of LHC commenced proceedings on a petition filed by Judicial Activism Panel, an NGO which challenged unannounced loadshedding in the month of Ramazan.

The petitioner's counsel told the court that the government promised to eliminate loadshedding, but failed to do so.

He added authorities had made tall claims and failed to keep their word. He stated that the government, rather than putting an end to power outages, started unannounced loadshedding in Ramazan.

The unannounced loadshedding increased the hardships of people manifold, the petition stated.
