KARACHI:

Traders of the Shershah scrap market held a shutter-down strike on Friday in response to the threats they have been receiving by the alleged attackers of the October 19 incident in which 13 traders were killed.

Abdul Manan, a shopkeeper, told The Express Tribune that they have been receiving calls from the culprits who told them to leave the area otherwise they would kill them one by one and would set fire to their shops.

The Anjuman-e-Shershah Scrap Market president, Muhammad Zahid, said that they received a call from the attackers a few days ago, threatening to kill 50 traders this time around and punish witnesses severely.

“The government has not fulfilled any promises made after the October attack. The compensation of Rs500,000 has not been paid to the victims and they have not been given any government jobs. The traders have also not been provided with armed licences,” protested Zahid.
