ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) has demanded resignation of Marvi Memon, the Chairperson of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).

In a letter to the chief justice of Pakistan on Monday, PPPP Secretary Information Dr Nafisa Shah alleged that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was planning to manipulate elections by retaining its former MNA as head of the state-funded programme.

Shah said that Memon did not resign from her post like other cabinet ministers and was still holding meetings on the BISP disbursal.

The letter reads, “BISP is a highly influential program which disburses payment to 5.2 million families and can be easily used to manipulate the forthcoming elections.”

It adds that Memon continues to hold the office of the chairperson and “this is tantamount to election engineering and pre-poll rigging”.

Shah demeaned that Memon should be asked to resign and “a senior most bureaucrat or board member officiate until the new government is formed”.
