LAHORE: The provincial government and the opposition in Punjab on Monday submitted two names each to the parliamentary committee in the hopes of picking an interim chief minister for the province.

The government proposed Justice (retd) Sahir Ali and former naval chief Admiral (retd) Zakaullah, while the opposition proposed columnist Ayaz Amir and Hassan Askari.

Former speaker of the Punjab Assembly Rana Iqbal Khan submitted the names of six individuals who will form the parliamentary committee. The committee includes former provincial law minister Rana Sanaullah, former health minister Khawja Imran Nazeer and former adviser on information and culture Malik Mohammad Ahmad Khan from the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led opposition nominated former opposition leader Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed, former MPA Sibtain Khan and Shoaib Siddiqui.

The committee is to decide on a name within the next three days.

According to well-placed sources in the PML-N, “The chances of making a breakthrough on the matter are thin and the matter will ultimately land in the court of the Election Commission of Pakistan.”

He added the names proposed by the opposition lacked credibility, adding, on the other hand, we had put forward the names of retired civil servants with an impeccable track record.

Nasir Javaid Chaudhry | 5 years ago | Reply The Chief Minister and the Leader Of Opposition failed to agree on a caretaker minister. A person who has given his opinion can he again be appointed in the second step. I am referring to appointing of Mian Mehmood ur Rasheed in the parliamentary commitee.. His presence in the parliamentary committee is against all norms...He has already enjoyed his stature in the first tier and now he can’t be in the second tier. The names thus submitted by him should be cancelled simply by his imposing upon in the Parliamentary commitee...
