KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) - Pakistan has asked the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) to avoid load-shedding during sehri and iftar times.

MNA Syed Waseem Hussain, MPAs Rashid Khilji, Sabir Qaimkhani, Zubair Ahmed Khan and Dilawar Qureshi deplored extended power outages in Hyderabad.

The legislators pointed out that the power outages during Ramazan, especially during sehri and iftar hours caused great distress to Muslims observing fasts.

Pointing to the complaints regarding inordinate delay in repair or replacement of the transformers, the lawmakers said Hesco takes several days to address such complaints.

They also said that Hesco's staff was responsible for delay in repair or replacement of the transformers. The MNA and MPAs have requested Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and the federal power minister to take notice of the issue.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI) President Goharullah expressed his grave concern over the frequent power breakdowns in various parts of Hyderabad. He called upon the Hesco chief executive officer to improve the power supply system in order to avert inconvenience to citizens during the heatwaves this season.

In a press statement issued on Monday, the HCCI president admitted the demand for power supply has increased recently, causing more pressure on the Hesco network, but he said that effective strategy from the Hesco management could resolve the issue.

He said that the people, particularly the business community, required uninterrupted power supply during the hot weather. The interruption in power supply caused inconvenience at trade and business centres as well as shopping centres while it also badly affects the production of home-based industries.
