LAHORE:
Admiring the government in admitting the role of transgender people in society, a female legislator of the treasury benches demanded of the provincial government to allocate quota in government jobs for them.

The demand was made by the PML-N’s legislator Hina Pervez Butt in her resolution she submitted to Punjab Assembly. She contended that it was an admirable act of the government in which the existence of the transgender people had been admitted.

“We need to take measures to put an end to the notion spreading hatred against transgender people.” She said National Assembly had also passed a bill for the basic fundamental right of the eunuchs. The government passed several bills such as Sikh Marriage Act, Hindu Marriage Act, Christian Marriage Act and Women’s Rights to protect the right of minorities. She said getting passed a bill to protect the basic right of transgender people was the great success of the government, adding all the citizens have the same rights under Pakistan’s constitution.

She said this House not only admired the steps of the provincial government to protect their rights but also demand the government to allocate a quota in government’s jobs for eunuchs.

She said transgender people should be provided a peaceful and conducive atmosphere in educational institutions for them to acquire education. “Transgender people are part of society so they cannot be neglected at any cost,” she said.
