We need to make continuous efforts to provide quality rehabilitation services for drug users so that they can actively participate in the development of the country, said Ambassador of Japan Takashi Kurai on Monday.

He expressed the views while inaugurating a treatment and rehabilitation centres for drug addicts in Gujranwala on Monday.

He expressed hope that the project will contribute to improving the lives of addicts, while also strengthening the relationship between Japan and Pakistan.

The government of Japan contributed $83,040 to the Mian Afzal Trust Hospital for the project, stated a press release. Previously, the 125 bed hospital had provided services to male patients only.

Now, with the help from the Japanese government, the hospital has added a facility with 20 beds to cater to women and children exclusively, the release said.
